Are Your Roots Firmly Planted?

"Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:7-8

I love this verse. If only I could say it always rings true. I want to be the person who doesn't fear, whose soul is always connected to the source of life, giving life to others, never worrying and bearing fruit. But the truth is I wonder if we will have enough money for retirement, I worry/pray about my kids safety (even though they are adults), and I get frustrated, discouraged, and bored at times.

So why do I love this verse? Because I believe that is who God created me to be. He knows that if I could trust Him to always have my back and know that His plan is so much better then mine, then I could be a life giving tree for all of my days, with roots that go deep and wide, just like this amazing tree.

When I saw this tree, I was overwhelmed with it's beauty and it's depth. There was a sign that said "absolutely no climbing on the roots." Normally our roots aren't exposed, just the green or brown leaves, and the fruit or lack of fruit. But this tree was so strong and healthy that even exposing the roots hasn't caused it to wither. That's my prayer for me and you. Let's continuously connect to God, the true source of life, so we can be joyful life-givers no matter what the circumstances. And on the days where your branches are close to breaking, I hope I can be a source of strength. If our roots are planted, we can be there for each other and spread joy to those passing by just like this tree did for me.
